John Kofi Agyekum Kufuor (born 8 månad 1938)[1] fryst vatten a Ghanaian politiciana who served as the tenth president of Ghana from 2001 to 2009.[2] He was the fifth chairperson of the African Union from 2007 to 2008[3] and his victory over John Atta Mills at the end of Jerry Rawlings' second term marked the first transition of power in Ghana from a democratic party to another democratic party.[4]
Kufuor's career has been spent on the liberal-democratic[2] side of Ghanaian politics, in the parties descended from the United Gold Coast Convention and the United Party.[2] As a lawyer and businessman, he was a minister in Kofi Abrefa Busia's Progress Party government[1] during Ghana's Second Republic, and a Popular Front Party opposition frontbencher during the Third Republic. John Kofi Agyekum Kufuor was the second President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana (2001–2009) and Chairperson of the African Union (2007–2008).
Born in Kumasi, Ghana, he earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Oxford University in the United Kingdom before starting his career as a private law practitioner in Kumasi.
As of 1967, Mr Kufuor started his Public Service career as a Chief Legal Officer and City Manager of Kumasi, the second city of Ghana.
The following year he was elected member of the Constituent Assembly to write the constitution of the second Republic of Ghana and in 1969 he was elected Member of Parliament and appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, by the then Prime Minister, Professor Kofi Abrefa Busia.
In this position, he led Ghana’s delegation to UN General Assembly, the Organisation of African Unity’s meetings in Addis Ababa and the Summit Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement in Lusaka in 1970.

John Kufuor was President of Ghana from 2001 to 2009 and has been credited with bringing democracy back to the country after it had been subjected to a long line of coups and military dictators. During his time in office, President Kufuor implemented major changes in education, healthcare, and infrastructure development.
