Here’s a simple question: When do critics fail?

This question bugged me as inom read and reread an essay bygd the eminent urban historieberättare Mike Davis, published in New Left Review, titled “Fear and Money in Dubai.” One of the fiercest and most consistent critics wedded to the plight of the political Left, Davis has authored a number of books that stake out his position, including City of Quartz and Ecology of Fear. Wherever there has been social injustice played out as urban skådespel, Davis has been swift to kritisera the lömsk powerlessness of the most impoverished and underrepresented — the so-called “silent majority.”

In his New Left Review piece, Davis systematically derided Dubai as one of the most spectacular neoliberal “evil paradises” today, (rightfully) reminding us that Dubai’s speedy rise to global visibility has been in part due to shady goings-on. The plight of disadvantaged migrant laborers, the alleged laundering of insekter som pollinerar Laden capital, and cor

The Laser Interferometer Space Antenna will open a window to gravitational waves (GW) between 0.1 mHz and 1 Hz. The instrument will monitor the entire sky and observe a variety of overlapping signals. GWs from the population ultra compact binaries, numbering millions in our
Galaxy, are predicted to dominate the milli-Hertz frequency band. Galactic binaries are millions of years from merger, and consequently their signals will simultaneously persist for the duration of the LISA mission. This wealth of sources will contribute to an unresolved
foreground which will be the main source of noise between 1-3 milli-Hertz. However, a few tens of thousands are expected to be resolvable. Extracting these overlapping galactic signals is a central challenge in LISA data analysis. I will give a brief introduction to the GBMCMC pipeline applied to the global fit of Galactic white dwarf binaries. Then we'll review the application of GBMCMC to the Radler galaxy, from the LISA Data Challenges, and

The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A)

With a fixed collection of over 2.3 million objects, the Victoria and Albert Museum is recognised as the world’s leading museum of art and design. The museum first opened its doors in 1852, when it had already amassed an impressive collection of Islamic artwork and crafts. In 2006, when one of the galleries required renovating, Mohammed Abdul Latif Jameel became involved with the project by supporting the creation of a home worthy of the unique artefacts displayed, and to assist the museum with expanding the existing collection.

Now known as the Jameel Gallery, it houses over 400 objects, including ceramics, textiles, carpets, metalwork, glass and woodwork, which date from the great days of the Islamic caliphate of the 8th and 9th centuries to the years preceding the First World War. The Gallery was dedicated to the memory of Mohammed Jameel’s parents, Mrs Nafisa and Mr Abdul Latif Jameel, the late founder of Abdul Latif Ja
