In the Autumn of , Larry posted a message on the Mount Temple Comprehensive School's notice boards. The note read something to the effect of, "Did anybody else out there waste money on guitars, etc, and want to form a band?" Anyone interested was to meet at Larry's house for a first audition. Ultimately, six boys responded to the notice, including Adam Clayton, Dave Evans, and Paul Hewson. U2 would eventually grow up out of this first band meeting. Laurence Joseph Mullen Jr. (; born 31 October ) is an Irish musician, best known as the drummer and co-founder of the rock band U2.[1] A member of the band since its inception, he has recorded 15 studio albums with U2. Mullen's distinctive, almost military drumming style developed from his playing martial beats in childhood marching bands.
Mullen was born in Dublin, where he attended Mount Temple Comprehensive School. In , he co-founded U2 after posting a message on the school's notice board in search of musicians.
