Michael Jordan Had These Two Requests for Ben Affleck’s Movie Air
Before Ben Affleck directed Air, the new film about the origin of Nike’s Air Jordan shoe line, he wanted to sit down and have a conversation with His Airness himself: Michael Jordan.
“I just wasn’t going to make this movie without asking him, ‘What matters to you?’” Affleck said during the March 18 world premiere of Air at the SXSW Film & TV Festival in Austin, Texas. “Interestingly, and tellingly, he had a few things that mattered.”
Jordan, who is famously protective about controlling the narrative of his life, had just two specific requests for the film, according to Affleck. He wanted Howard White, longtime vice president of Nike’s Jordan Brand, to be included in the movie. And he wanted EGOT-winning actress Viola Davis to play his mother, Deloris Jordan.

Michael Jordan came from a solid middle-class family. He was very lucky from the beginning of his life; despite encountering some problems. One problem; gambling. Michael gambled out of competition; not out of greed; so it was a problem, and a severe one. But because he had the guts to see the basketball coach of his high school privately, he was able to eventually make the team and excel after much practice.
In North Carolina U, things were a bit different. I loved the monopoly sequence. Michael wisely avoided complications with young women; he concentrated on his basketball. His family did not care for him leaving college for 6 million dollars playing for the Bulls. How could he make 6 million on any other job? He couldn't. The realization set in that 6 million right now was worth more than finishing college.
