Chennai: Abhay Singh came up trumps courtesy power and precision to win his maiden senior men’s title, while 36-year-old Joshna Chinappa’s juggernaut rolled on as she clinched a record 19th women’s title at the National Squash Championships here on Saturday. Abhay beat the gritty Velavan Senthilkumar 11-13, 11-7, 11-6, 11-4 in a match that was far more closely contested than the scoreline suggests, and Joshna overcame a spirited fight from the 14-year-old Anahat Singh.
Top seed Abhay said he had to summon every ounce of strength to ward off Velavan’s challenge. “It was probably the toughest match I have played this year.
