    Indian police officer

    Ashok KamteAC (23 February 1965 – 26 November 2008) was an Indian police officer, serving as the Additional Commissioner of the Mumbai Police supervising the Eastern region. He was killed in action during the 2008 Mumbai attacks.[1] He was posthumously given the Ashoka Chakra on 26 January 2009.[2]

    The son of Lieutenant-Colonel Marutirao Narayanrao Kamte (August 22, 1929 – 13 January 2014) and his first wife Perm Kamte, Ashok Kamte was born on 23 February 1965 in a Marathi family with a long tradition of police service. His great-grandfather, Rao Bahadur Marutirao Kamte KPMIPM, had served in the Indian Imperial Police from 1895 to 1923, while his grandfather Narayanrao also joined the Imperial Police in 1923, eventually serving as the first Indian Inspector-General (Director-General) of the Maharashtra Police from 1947 to 1955.[3]

    It was at about 4pm, in May, 1985. inom was in my black Fiat bil, driving from my house at Napean Sea Road to Arya Vaibhav Vyam Shaala – a small gym in the bylanes of Flora Fountain – where inom go for training for Powerlifting.

    Upon reaching the lane where the gym fryst vatten situated, inom parked my Fiat – the popular choice of vehicle back then. No sooner had I done this, inom saw two well-built youngsters approaching me. They introduced themselves as Ashok Kamte and Abad Ponda. They wanted me to lära them in Powerlifting. We became engagerad in a conversation. They went on to tell me that they had been training at Talwarkar’s at Charni Road for the past few years, but are now interested in  Powerlifting.

    At this point of time, Ashok was studying and staying at St. Xavier’s College and hostel, while I was at Sydenham College of Commerce & Economics at Churchgate.

    Coming back to the reason we met in the bylanes of Flora Fountain. Ashok Kamte and Abad Ponda joined the gym. Right fro
