About Me
Why did you decide to write picture books?
I’ve always loved picture books. Even when I was reading more grown-up books, I always read picture books too. There’s a lot of truth and beauty in a well-done picture book, and truth and beauty are something you never outgrow.
Plus, I really like the challenge of creating a complete, fully realized story in such a small space. It’s like verbal Sudoku. And when you achieve it, it is incredibly satisfying.
Do you draw your own pictures?
Absolutely not. My artistic expertise is limited to doodling. I am so happy to leave the illustrations to professional artists. In fact, seeing the artwork come back for my books is one of my favorite parts in the process. It’s thrilling to see how someone else interprets my stories and sees my characters.
Do you get to pick the artist?
Nope. That’s up to the book’s publisher. This answer surprises a lot of people, but there’s a reason for it. Book publishers have people who work as art

Author Biography
For visitors who would like to know something about me, I am a Londoner, born and bred at Westminster, although I have also lived in Norfolk, Sussex and Scotland, and now reside in Surrey. I married Rankin Weir (d.2023) in 1972, and we have had two children, John (1982-2020) and Kate (born 1984). I was educated at the City of London School for Girls, obtaining A-levels in English Literature, Art and History (English and European medieval history, with twelfth-century monasticism in the West as my specialist subject), then at the North Western Polytechnic of London, where I trained as a teacher with History as my main subject, studying world history, English medieval history and the Italian Renaissance. I did not pursue that career, however, because I quickly became disillusioned with trendy teaching methods.

THE STORY SO FAR
For Ian Gregoire, the journey to becoming an author was a long one with many stops and starts along the way. It began at seven years of age when he read The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis for the first time. This magical childhood experience kindled a love for both reading and storytelling that remains undiminished to this day.
It was a few short years later, as an eleven year old, that Ian first came to believe he had discovered his calling in life. For an English assignment at school he was required to write a short story to be entered into a literary prize. While he can’t for the life of him remember what his story was about, he has never forgotten that it earned him a runners-up place, and a certificate presented to him during a school assembly. From that moment he knew he was meant to be a fiction writer, though he never suspected it would take him three decades to reach his destination.
The dream stalled ten years later after Ian dropped ou
